Starting
a new life isn't easy when the skeletons locked in her closet are the
notorious town drunk for a father and a haunted past. But, Hadley
Morgan isn't one to shy away from second chances or giving them
either.
When a young, single father wrapped up in an octane
fueled package takes particular interest in her, she begins to dream.
But well-known drag racer Aiden Casey is also her boss, making her
hesitate to grab at her chance at happiness.
Will her secrets
shatter their chance at love or will his past come back to destroy
both of them?
For
the first time, I leaned over and kissed Aiden. The gentle press of
my lips carrying all the words I knew he wouldn’t hear if I spoke
them. Bit by bit he softened and my tongue found its way against his.
I stoked a low, warm fire, as we kissed. It burned between us,
crackling with a belied intensity. His
plate tumbled to the blanket, mine followed, no longer needed. His
fingers slid up the sides of my face, expertly doing away with the
pins I’d struggled with. Aiden deepened the kiss as my hair
whooshed down my back. Blindly
I popped open several buttons of his shirt, my fingers seeking the
warmth of his chest. When Aiden moaned, sultry and sweet, it was my
undoing. I’d have let him take me in the back of the truck. Modesty
be damned. He
broke the kiss, his fingers still tangled in my hair, gasping for
breath. He pressed his forehead against mine, holding me suspended
somewhere between arousal and wonderment. “I’m
going to walk you to your door and you’re going to close it between
us.” He slid from the truck, his body quivering slightly. I’d
made him tremble. The empowering fact thrilled me. He
chastely plucked me from the bed, placing me on the grass.
Disappointment stung when he didn’t hold me against him, when his
fingers didn’t linger. Self-doubt
crept in. “Did I do something wrong?” My chest tightened, it was
the first real move I’d made between us and now he was ditching me. “Hell
no.” He spun, took both my hands in his, and brought them to his
lips. “I’m going to do right by you, at least this once. I want
you to have something …innocent, from me.” “You
don’t have to do that, Aiden.” But my heart swelled ten times
even as my libido screamed in defiance. “I
do, for me.” Hand in hand we walked back to the trailer. He
kissed me once on the tip of my nose. “Good night, Hadley Jane.”
Leslie spends most days attempting to wrangle the voices in her head and often wishes she could clone herself so that their stories get told faster. She loves words, romance, and characters that feel like family and spends almost all of her free time with her own family; including a boisterous eleven year old that she homeschools and an assorted cast of rescue pets. She lives her own happily ever after with her soul mate and best friend in the northern part of Alabama and hopes you enjoy reading her stories as much as she enjoys writing them.
Hey there, innernets! Thanks for
stopping by. I’m Leslie Scott I’d like to share a little about
the my hero and heroine of my newest release with you. Hot Lap is the second novel from
my Arkadia Fast series (the first being The Finish Line). The
series follows the story of a group of street racers in the small
Texas town of Arkadia. In the course of writing the first novel, that
core group of characters became a family for me—and for my readers.
I’ve had readers and reviewers tell me all sorts of things about
that first book, but they all agree about one thing: that the
characters felt like family. That theme is important to me with this
series, especially where the heroine of The Finish Line was
concerned. So, it was natural to think of giving her brother (who
goes through the ringer in that story) a bit of a second chance. Aiden Casey is a young, single father
who has just gone through a messy divorce well before his
twenty-fifth birthday. He’s not looking for love, for another wife,
but what he finds is a friend he’s incredibly attracted to, that
treats his kids like her own, and by the end of the novel—will
sacrifice everything for the family they have created. And her name… is Hadley Morgan. In
The Finish Line, Hadley is a sort of sounding board for my
heroine. She’s an outsider who craves acceptance, all the while
trying to shove the skeletons back into her closet. All Hadley’s
hardships, though, give her a steely strength to take on a love and a
family that doesn’t come easily. Writing Hot Lap was a different
animal for me. As with this New Adult Romance I threw in a bunch of
adult hardships and forced these young people to handle them and
still manage to find love. It’s a sexy, fast paced novel and I hope
you enjoy it! And let me know if they feel like they
could be your friends—or even like family to you. ~ Leslie
