from the bed, I wrap the sheet tight around my body and stomp my way
to the front of the house. A small voice in the back of my head is
screaming at me, telling me that I'm making a big mistake. I'm beyond
caring. I'm on a mission to do harm and the pompous ass on the other
side of the door is my intended victim. Unlatching
the lock, I throw the door open and come face-to-face with a guy not
much older than myself. Keeping the sheet held close to my chest, I
give him a quick once-over.
My mouth goes dry as I scan his six feet of defined muscles, angular
jaw, and unique slate gray colored eyes. He's gorgeous. In another
life,
I might blush and get all giddy to find a guy like him on my
doorstep,
but that's not my reality. I’m pissed and the don't-fuck-with-me
vibe he's putting off in spades has my hackles rising. I
cock a hip against the door frame and match his scowl with my own.
“Who are you and what did my door ever do to you?? “Are
you Chloe Collins?” Are
you kidding me right now?
I cock a brow at him, wondering who he is and why he’s darkening my
doorstep.
“The one and only,” I respond, my tone as dry as the Sahara.
“What's it to you?” His
scowl shifts until he is baring his teeth. “You've got ten minutes
and not a second more to get your ass dressed and out of this house.
Nathan will be here in five with the movers to load your shit and
haul it over to storage.” My
mouth falls open. I hear what he's
saying, but my brain is having a problem processing his
words. Before I can respond with a quip of my own, David steps up
behind me and opens the door wider. He stares at our unwanted guest
with a scowl of his own. “What's
going on?” David's question balances precariously in the air. I
shake off my stupor. “Good question,” I respond, my voice more
growl than not. When the only response I get is a tap on his watch,
indicating my limited time, I let out a frustrated sigh. “Who
are you?” I
ask. The
guy scoffs, his face a mask of irritation “Did Daddy forget to tell
you about us?” “Us?” “My
brother and I,” he clarifies. Crossing his arms over his broad
chest, he stands to his full height and cocks his head to the side as
he glares down at me. “Nathan is our guardian. We live with him.”
