Announcing Trouble by Amy Fellner Dominy
Publication Date: August 5, 2019
Publisher: Entangled Teen Crush
I may know everything there is to know
about baseball, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Or like
him. Garrett Reeves: sidelined player and the embodiment of
everything I’ve learned to hate about baseball. He’s gorgeous,
he’s cocky, he’s laser-focused on getting back in the game, no
matter the cost.
When he convinces me to call games
alongside him, our chemistry heats up the booth. We’re good
together, whether I want to admit it or not. I’m finding that I
like baseball again, but even worse, I’m liking Garrett. A lot.
But when he has to decide between our
future and a new shot at his dreams, I know baseball will win out
every time.
Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush
book has tons of hilarious banter, lots of sexual tension, and a hero
who will throw a wild pitch right at your heart.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
How did you come up
with the title?
I love coming up with titles! How
can I play with the words? Are there are double meanings? I always
start with a working title and then I brainstorm ideas as I’m
working on the book. This book was called Sports
Announcer Girl Book—not exactly catchy. Early ideas were things like THE GAMES BETWEEN
US and LOVE ON AIR.
But when I came up with ANNOUNCING
TROUBLE I really liked it because you can
think of it as someone announcing that trouble is coming. But also
that Josie has announcing trouble—she’s got to announce these
games with Garrett.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Mostly, I hope readers fall in
love with these characters. I’m sure that there’s a message, but all the characters in the
story are grappling with what to do after high school. Do you follow
a dream? Or do you take the practical road? There isn’t a
one-size-fits-all answer and I hope that comes through in the
book—especially in Mai’s valedictorian speech.
If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Hands down, it would have to be
Judy Blume. I discovered her books in middle school and they were
about girls like me going through the same things I was going
through. In my house, we didn’t talk about girl stuff so I learned
about puberty, periods, and sex from Judy Blume. I think those books
are why I like to write contemporary stories, too.
What are your current projects?
One of my favourite characters in
ANNOUNCING TROUBLE is
Josie’s best friend, Mai. She has a completely inappropriate crush
on another ballplayer, Anthony, that wasn’t meant to go anywhere. A
crush that Mai refused to let go anywhere. But there was something
between those two and I wanted to figure out what it was. So I
did—and yep, there was definitely something there! I just finished
Mai and Anthony’s story. It’s called TWO
WEEK FLING and I hope it’s going to be my
next book with Entangled Crush.
Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
I always say writing is a lonely
job but not one you can do alone. I have amazing critique partners
who read pages for me and talk me down when I want to burn my
manuscripts. For anyone out there interested in writing, I recommend
finding a support group the way I have.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
One of my favourite romance
authors is Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I love how she mixes humor with
emotion. Her characters keep me laughing but there’s always deeper
issues and vulnerabilities they’re working through. I love that
about her books!
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
There are so many stories to read
(and so little time) that it says a lot when you pick up mine. I want
you to know how much I appreciate it, and that I work really hard to
be sure you won’t regret it.
What genre do you consider your
book(s)?
ANNOUNCING TROUBLE is
a contemporary romance with a mix of humor and heart.
Do you ever experience writer's
block?
For sure! But when I’m stuck in
a book it’s usually because I don’t have enough conflict—I’m
not sure what happens next. So to get myself “unblocked” I’ll
think of something horrible I can do to my character.
Do you write an outline before every book you write?
I wish! I’ve tried writing
outlines but that doesn’t work for me. Instead, I write first and
after I’ve got a few chapters I’ll go back and outline. It’s a
crazy process and not one I recommend.
Have you ever hated something you wrote?
On a daily basis. I’ve had to
give up on the idea of being perfect.
While you were writing, did you
ever feel as if you were one of the characters?
All the time! I think that’s why
I like writing in first person. I’m in the character’s head that
way and I see scenes unfolding as if I’m in a movie.
What are your expectations for the book?
I hope that readers will love
these characters as much as I do. You can’t spend a year with
people living in your head and not care about them and not want them
to be well received.
Thanks so much for hosting
me here!
