He enclosed her in his arms and then he stared over her head for long seconds as if gathering his thoughts. Finally, with both hands on the sides of her face, he lifted it so he could see her clearly. “Can you at least tell me why you’re here?” His husky voice, low and questioning, didn’t demand this time, instead it cajoled. “I can’t.” She used her eyelashes to hide behind. “Why not?” “Because I don’t like lying to you.” “Well that’s a start. How about just telling me the truth? I figure I know what you’re up to anyway. So you might as well come clean.” He placed his lips against her forehead and left them there a few seconds before ending the caress. “Just so you face facts, honey, if you’re trying to fit in with that bunch, you’d be like a rosebud in a garden of snakes.” “I’m learning. My biggest problem is understanding their language. There’s so many slang idioms mixed in with their cuss words, it’s confusing.” Trace stiffened. “Damn!” His eyes gored her determination, fracturing it for a few seconds. “Please don’t. Look, I was thinking we can help each other.” She looked at him and read the truth in his eyes. He meant it. Pushing him to commit, she asked, “Can we talk tomorrow?” “How about later tonight?” “I don’t get off ‘til two.” “I’ll be waiting to give you a ride home.” He pointed to the car lot. “I’ll park at the far end by the chain link fence. FBI Series – At this time there are 7 standalone books to the series, with the
8th in the pipeline.
I
started writing these books back in April of 2014, when I came up with the idea
of standalone, fast-paced, conflict-driven romantic suspense stories. A friend
of mine had built his own plane and took me for a ride. All I could think about
was how cool it would be to have a character in law enforcement who could fly
her own plane. (Special Agent Francesca, Book #1)
The
FBI connection came soon after when I decided I wanted it to be a series about
kick-ass characters and not be restrained by their gender. I mean there are as
many strong, powerful, classy women in that arena as there are men…. Right?
After
I started writing Special Agent Francesca, I’d found my niche. It was fun… pure
unadulterated joy to let my imagination roam while I forced her into conflict
after conflict that would test her mettle. Since I love humor, it seeped
through and many of my reviews have mentioned that the book is enjoyable for
that reason.
After
I wrote the first book, my hubby asked me to write the next one with a male
protagonist, and he suggested I call the agent Finnegan. Just the name sparked
all kinds of entertaining situations and it became my Christmas book for that
year. This time, I added a secondary character called Joker who was Finnegan’s
Irish, bar-owner father. (It was the name my husband always used for his own
Dad.)
That’s
when I realized the beauty of having people I know being slipped into my
fictional stories. Turns out, The Joker became a favorite – if most of the
reviews are to be believed. Since then, almost every book in the series has a
character from my own life and it’s been a hoot to take the best from those I
love and let the world see them as I do. (Special Agent Charli – the character
Poppa John is a dead-ringer for my beloved pops. In the book, he’s funny,
adorable and smart – just like the real Poppa John used to be. (Many of his
fictional high jinks are factual) If you go to the book’s Amazon page and read
the reviews, you’ll find that most readers mention this person and seem to love
him.
